Oct. 20, 2019
The CJ CUP @ NINE BRIDGES (hereinafter the CJ Cup), Koreas first regular PGA Tour competition, has concluded its third annual tournament with a favorable reception by players and officials. On October 20, 2019, CJ Group (Chairman Lee Jae-hyun) announced that the CJ Cup, held at the Nine Bridges Golf Club (Jeju) for four days from October 17, attracted more than 47,000 admissions and was broadcast to a total of 100 million households across the world.
The prestige of the CJ Cup has risen sharply in just three years: It has grown into an international tournament acclaimed by the worlds top-tier players in terms of the players level and the tournament preparations and operations.
The success of the tournament is attributable to the all-out efforts of CJ Group, whose F&B companies, including CJ CheilJedang, CJ Freshway and CJ Foodville, supplied the food and beverages, while the logistics services were provided by CJ Korea Express, and ticketing was organized by the CJ ENM O Shopping Division.
Most notably, the introduction of eco-friendly CJ BIO PHA packaging materials to the CJ Cup, watched by people around the world, drew keen interest from tens of thousands of visitors.
PHAs are a plastic replacement that CI BIO has developed using its own microbial fermentation technology. They constitute an eco-friendly biodegradable material that can be returned to nature after use.
Biodegradable eco-friendly PHA bags were made available across Nine Bridges throughout the CJ Cup tournament. Visitors have given us positive feedback about CJ's efforts to protect the environment throughout the tournament, said Sim Do-yong, a deputy general manager at CJ BIO.
CJ BIO will continue to supply its eco-friendly materials for future CJ Cup tournaments.
