What is L-arginine
L-Arginine is an essential amino acid involved in various physiological functions such as
growth, immunity, reproduction, and metabolism in animals.
Particularly in poultry, L-Arginine cannot be synthesized sufficiently in the body and must be supplied through feed.
Additionally, in swine, it can be considered a conditionally essential amino acid, as newborn piglets and sows
in early pregnancy do not synthesize enough arginine and require external supplementation.
Functions ofL-arginine
L-Arginine is related to production of nitric oxide, urea, polyamine
(putrescine, spermidine, and spermine), creatine, and amino acids (proline and glutamate).
Especially, L-arginine is the only amino acid that can directly synthesize nitric oxide.
Nitric oxide mainly works on blood vessel relaxation and this helps improve the health of animals.
